Artigas counts on a modern and advanced center where it is developed the Program of Fortification of the Arts, Crafts and Offices (PAOF), that count on the financing of the European Union and the National Administration of Public Education.

 

The PAOF works in a building totally equipped with technology of last generation, destined to the three artisan areas that bear direct relation to the resources from the department of Artigas, textile, leathers and Semiprecious Stones.

 

At the present time, Artigas not only exports rough stones but also offers capacitation to craftsmen and produces unique and 100% of Artigas final pieces.

The Artigas State (Departamento), is in the north of the country located in the border with Brazil and Argentina. 

The subsoil of the department of Artigas is constituted by basalts in a 92% of its surface.

The main unit is the Arapey formation, equivalent to Serra Geral, is a succession of subaerial basaltic spills of individual power between 10 and 60 meters, interbedded with arenaceous levels of Aeolian that rarely exceed a meter of thickness.
